VOLUNTEER DOCENTS NEEDED

The Summer at Spangler program is one of the many initiatives undertaken by HGAC and the Preservation Committee.  It is a public-facing activity in which our docents engage with visitors to the George Spangler Farm on Blacksmith Shop Road.  The farm is owned and operated by the Gettysburg Foundation and this partnership is one of HGAC’s many successes.

In terms of time commitment, we are present at the Spangler barn every Sunday during their summer season.  In 2024, our Sundays start on June 9 and end on August 11.  A full day is roughly 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM.  The farm itself is open from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.  However, we also split the day into two shifts for those who cannot devote a full day.  Those shifts are 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM.  The extra ½ hour is for set-up and tear down of our display.

While knowledge of our Pennsylvania barns is most helpful, we will conduct a training session and make available information resources to help you learn about the barn.  That date will be announced soon.  But you can see in the picture we have items such as model joinery, tools, books, etc in our display to help you interact with visitors.

Please contact Greg Kaufmann at 931-217-0269 (cell) or gregkauf15@gmail.com for more information or to volunteer.

Hope to hear from you soon!
Greg
