                                              2010 Summer Membership Picnic

Over thirty-five HGAC members and friends enjoyed a wonderful late
summer evening picnic at the Three Springs Farm just south of Cashtown
on Saturday, August 28th. The owners of the farm and our gracious
hosts for the picnic were Suzanne and Jonathan Ingram who swept out
their barn and invited us in to feast on chicken, gumbo and other
Cajun delights. There were plentiful appetizers and drinks and the
whole affair was topped off with a number of incredible seasonal
desserts.
After dinner, David Maclay led us on a tour of the well maintained
standard Pennsylvania barn that dates from the 1890’s. It is believed
that the barn was built by E.B and H.A. Bucher who also built a number
of other barns in Franklin Township. The barn measures 51 feet by 71
feet on the upper level which contains three bays and a granary. The
forebay which measures seven feet in depth faces the northeast which
is unusual compared to most of the Pennsylvania barns in the HGAC
Historic Barn Survey. The rear of the barn fits right into the
hillside though, making it unnecessary to build up a ramp to get to
the second level threshing floor.
Thanks to everyone who came to the picnic and contributed to the fun,
and a special thank you to Jonathan, Suzanne and Alexandra Ingram for
opening up their farm to us.

HGAC Sets Up at the Gettysburg Re-enactment!
For two years in a row now, HGAC has set up camp at the Gettysburg
re-enactment. A table was secured in the Author and Artist Tent along
with several other Adams County non-profit organizations.
Mike Monaco and Elizabeth Desmond manned the table for the 4 day event
in this year's sweltering heat.  HGAC publications, literature, maps, and Lincoln posters, along with this year's new fundraising items were on diplay for purchase or as informational handouts.
Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to these two dedicated members!
If you would like to volunteer for next year's re-enactment,
please let HGAC know by calling, 717-334-5185.
