Barn Registry

HGAC has created an Adams County Barn Registry that will be used to inventory and recognize historic barns within Adams County. The first 32 barns in the registry belong to members of HGAC who invited the Barn Preservation Project team to survey their barns.  An additional 20 barns have been added to the registry in response to requests in the local newspapers for non-HGAC members to have their barns surveyed.  There are a number of advantages to having your barn included in the Adams County Barn Registry that is maintained by HGAC. First, after your barn is surveyed, a database report and color photographs will be sent to you that document your barn.  Second, registration makes you eligible for one of HGAC's Annual Preservation Awards.  Third, upon registration you will receive a six-by-six-inch tin sign with the HGAC Barn Preservation Project logo on it in addition to the HGAC-ID number that identifies your barn in the Registry.  If you would like to have your barn included in the HGAC Barn Registry, please contact Curt Musselman at 642-5767 or by e-mail at
mapman@pa.net.  A team of our barn surveyors can then visit your property to document your barn.

Salvage Warehouse on Washington Street, Gettyburg

Architectural Salvage Warehouse

The National Park Service has agreed to lease its garage located
on South Washington Street in Gettysburg to HGAC for an architectural salvage warehouse. The warehouse will allow the public to purchase architectural materials that have been salvaged from demolished or remodeled buildings.

The warehouse will meet the need for quality vintage materials at a reasonable cost here in Adams County. The warehouse will also provide an opportunity for local property owners to recycle materials as they renovate their buildings.
HGAC will accept donations of quality architectural materials once the warehouse is re-open for the season.

A project like this needs support from volunteers. Initially the warehouse will be open the third Saturday of each month. If you'd like to help at the warehouse, please give Merry Bush a call at 717-
334-5227.
The warehouse will be open in 2010 on the following Saturdays from 1 to 4 pm:
April 17
May 15
June 19
July 17
August 21
September 18
October 16
The warehouse is also open by appointment by calling
Merry Bush 717-334-5227.
